Posted to History of the Peavine Railroad Facebook Group By Chad Fannin, March 20 , 2020. Description from post.

N&W Y2a No. 1701 at Clare Yard 9-25-1938 taking on water. Built at Roanoke shops by the N&W in January, 1919. All the Y2’s which included 1701 were made into Y2a’s at later dates. This included enlarging the cylinder bores and eventually moving the smoke box mounted air compressors to the side of the loco.
