The 2026 Tailgaters Fantasy Football League Division and Schedules have been posted to the ESPN web site.
I’ve probably explained this in the past, but in case you don’t remember, division are set based on the previous seasons Total Points Scored in a snake format starting with the Paul Brown Division, then the George Halas Division and last the Vince Lombardi Division. The top three scorers from the pervious season fill the top spot in each division. Then I snake my way back from Lombardi to Brown. Among the top three teams in each division, or the first nine teams seeded, I do prevent two teams that were in the same division the previous season from being paired up again. Then the last team in each division is seeded based on points, but because we have more teams in a division than we have divisions, this last team will always be paired with a team they were in the same division with last year.
That’s probably way more than you care about.
THE 2026 DIVISIONS are…
Paul Brown – Ducks, Marauders, Scoregasms, FNG (F****** New Guy… aka Eric Ruter)
George Halas – Scammers, Renegades, Destroyers***, Warriors
Vince Lombardi – Birds, Swamp Monsters, Moondogs, Brown
*** - FYI, after 27 seasons, I took the DAN out of Dans Destroyers. Dan is the Destroyers, seem redundant. Dan, If you’re a narcissist and want your name in your team name, you can put it back or I can.
2026 SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
Our FNG begins his Tailgaters careers with just about the hardest assignment you could give to an owner. Its our equivalent to hazing. Eric Ruter has to go on the road and play the only four time league champion, the Milford Marauders. If you get out of this game with nothing worse than a loss and a wedgie, you’ve done well Eric.
The best game of week two is the Scoregasms at the Swamp Monsters. Because they start the season on the road, this will be the ring ceremony game for the Swamp Monsters, who are the defending champions of the league. For those who’ve lost track, Scoregasms have won two of the last four league titles. So they know a thing or two about ring ceremony games.
Skipping week three. Our two main rivalries are both two part division rivalries this year. The Whitman-Hart rivalry will play round one when the Marauders go to the Oky Ducks in week four.
The Hatfields and McCoys will play in week five. The Hatfields being the Renegades and the McCoys being Scoregasms. Or is it the other way around? Either way, these distant cousins will set family ties aside for one weekend to see who the better owner is.
The Big Banana gets pulled out in week seven. Expect some unwanted bruising (it’s a produce thing) when these long time rivals square off for the first of two meetings.
Week 13 is probably the most important week in the regular season. This is the last of three divisional weeks, where everyone plays a division rival. This usually determines at least one of the division races, and is a last best chance for teams on the edge of the playoffs.
We have to wait until week fourteen for the much anticipated rematch from last years Tailgater Bowl. The Milford Marauders missed out on a repeat crown and a fifth title overall, falling to the Great Dismal Swamp Monsters in Tailgater Bowl XXVII. You realize if these teams both suck this year, this is going to be a real let down by this point in the season.
SCHEDULE FAVOR TO ASK
Do me a favor and double check my work. The schedule is created on a spreadsheet (this spreadsheet predates excel. I wrote this thing back in 1996 when we had our first 12 team league. Excel didn’t even exist. It might have been Lotus 1-2-3) 30 years ago. But it means I have to manually transfer it to ESPN. Which could mean errors.
Take a look at your schedule. You should play everybody once, and your division rivals a second time. Let me know if you find any errors.
