I know this will sound a little disingenuous, but I swear it is true. I hate this. Even when I’m on the good side, I hate it. It happens every year, and seems to happen to teams who need the win more than anyone else. Maybe that’s because we all feel like we always need that one more win. But I hate it when teams lose with the second highest score in the league. And have you ever noticed, rarely do we recognize with teams win with the second lowest score. But statically, it has to happen with the same frequency.
So while the Scammer is happy to have a Team of the Week and a win, he is not happy that it comes at the expense to Big Banana Rival (which BTW I’ve become completely negligent on keeping up with the rivalry. I think I need a page dedicated to rivalries… which if I do, will mean I create more rivalries to include more of you. Just be warned). The Scammers beat the Renegades 138-133 that came down to what Najee Harris did on Monday night. The Steelers look slightly resurgent on offense with Russell Wilson, and that freed Harris up to score thirteen points and push the Scammers over the top. Worth noting, these are two of the lowest scoring teams in the league that put on this shootout this week, and both needed the points. And I glossed over Jalen Hurts was Player of the Week with 37 thanks to the Bengals not so great defense.
As good as that game was, it was not the best. Wasn’t even the second best. The best game was the Kentucky Moondogs pull off the upset over the Milford Marauders 112-110. I suspect the Marauders and Moondogs woke up surprised at this result. I’m sure the Marauders assumed if they got fourteen from kicker Chris Boswell on Monday, they’d be safe. Not suspecting a man named Tracy would score twenty one and give the Moondogs their second win of the season. But Tyrone Tracy did have twenty one, and stole the game on Monday Night.

The Oky Ducks also came from behind on Monday Night with Malik Nabers. His seven gave the Ducks a 2 point win over I Got Boom, and keeps the Ducks ahead of the league with a 6-2 record. The Ducks are a game up on Cincinnait Brown in the Paul Brown division.
Speaking for Cincinnati Brown, they kept pace with the Ducks by beating Multiple Scoregasms 106-91. Aaron Rodgers led all scorers with 21 for Brown. Scoregasms cooled down after consecutive TOWs.
The Flippin Birds were a near mission Team of the Week, but scored a dominant win over the Warriors 125-75. Bo Nix is a surprising name on the top scorers list, but he had 35 for the Birds. James Cook and Cole Otten (who’s name with abbreviated on the web site is Cotton, make me sing Cotton Eyed Joe in my head. For this reason alone, I’m thinking of banning him from the league). Had 25 and 20 respectively. The Birds are still the highest scoring team in the league, despite a mediocre 4-4 record. Wildcard teams do well in our playoffs, and I’m starting to wonder if this is the Birds year. Sorry about the jinx.
Not not, not least, the Great Dismal Swamp Monsters showed they are not going down without a fight. At 2-5 things were dreary. Now at 3-5 and with a solid showing, there is hope. I can almost hear owner Stube in a Kamala Harris Cajun accent yelling FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT(I think I just crossed campaign streams. I hope that doesn’t tear a hole in the space time continuum). Getting back on track, the Swamp Monsters beat the Destroyers 118-94 thanks in part to Kyler Murray’s 26 points.
SURVIVOR
God bless the teams that make Survivor easy this time of year. Many years I have to work my way up the low scoring teams list to find one who’s still on the island. Then other years I have teams who graciously offer themselves up for elimination just like the Warriors did this week. It wasn’t a showing to be proud of, but with 75 points thank you Warriors for making light work of Survivor this week.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Week Nine is another divisional week on the schedule. Everybody is playing a rematch with a division rival. Specifically the division rival from the opening three weeks. For some, these are game to start putting teams away, for others these are last ditch efforts to stay in the race. But what I’m looking for our games between teams fighting for division crowns.
There are not one verses two battles this week. Mildly disappointing, but does mean future weeks probably will include such games. That also means there are no third versus fourth where I might find a game of survival… no pun intended as it relates to Survivor Island, as teams in this position are probably already off the island.
Torn between picking my own game against the Marauders, which I hate doing(Nothing against the Marauders, just seems a bit narcissistic picking my own game), and picking the Boom vs Renegades game between 4-4 teams, I’m going to honor the integrity of game of the week by not having one. I think you need a better game somewhere to earn this distinction.
So we’ll save it until next week.
