As your humble commissioner, I feel it is important to set a good example for the other owners. Especially the new owners. And it is with that in mind that the Digital Scammers went out and earned the week 1 Team of the Week honors. 117 isn’t a whopping score. You’ll see better totals during the season. But it was enough to knock off Baloony Boiz in their debut 117-110. Baloony Boiz actually receive the rudest of introductions to fantasy football, losing with the second highest point total. That just isn’t right. Things do even out over time, and Baloony Boiz will have their day.
The Baloony Boiz were boosted by a great performance by their defense. Dallas scored 35 points and for a while I thought they won Player of the Week. But I kept scrolling. And way down at the bottom of my screen was Tua Taqovailoa. His 37 points led Prestige Worldwide to an opening week victory over Florida Seabreeze 101-88.
The best game of the week was a nail biter. Gritz Blitz Falcons won their debut, knocking off the Ohio State Buckeyes 75.6-74.9. You’ll only see me reference decimals when the margin is less than a point. Kerry Collins was the leading scorer in the game with 26 for the Buckeyes. The Falcons got 22 from Christian McCaffrey and support from Calvin Ridley and Lamar Jackson.
Nothing overly noteworthy that I saw I the other games in the Brilliant Manufacturing League in week one. Rimski’s Raiders, fresh off last years runner up season, beat the Cincinnati Eagles. Grande Fantasmas picked up where they left off last year, losing to Steel City FooBall. And the Old England Patriots completed an opening week sweep by our two UK teams (always disgraceful), beating the Willow Run Flyers.
FLUSHED
For my own convenience, I’m only writing the one article. I’m also hoping to build a bond between the two leagues. On the Edison Works side, Down the Drain was the Team of the Week. They scored a league best 110 points in beating Transformation Worldwide. Brandon Aiyuk was the star of this game with 24 points.
The Player of the Week in the Edison Works league was the Dallas Cowboys defense. Somebody had Tua on their bench. Shakedown used that huge game from the Cowboys to pull out a 107-101 victory over the Beercats. Thirty five points from your defense is not something you should get use to, but it sure is nice when it happens.
The best game of the week certainly was not the highest scoring game of the week. TacoCorp held on for a 65-63 win over Happy. Happy was nearly very happy, as the New York Jets won their Monday Night game on an overtime punt return. The Jets ended up scoring 22 points, and it was almost enough to steal the week one victory.
And I just have to cover one more game. The fans laughed when The Dak Knight Rises ran out on to the field because they were all wearing hockey pants. But these were no imposters. The beat Momball 91-60 for their opening week win.
The other winners from week one were the Rally Possums with a 2.5 point victory over Joanne, and the Secret Scammers over Michael. See, it doesn’t pay to not have a team name. Your team loses when you don’t have a team name.
SURVIVIOR
Survivor waits on no one. And because we have two league, we have to eliminate two teams. Fantasy football is a cruel world. From the Edison Works League, we have another experienced team setting a fine example. Momball is sent to Davy Jones locker with only 60 points scored. They are joined off the island by the Cincinnati Eagles in the Brilliant Manufacturing League. I think it is very respectable of you to show the new owners how to be eliminated huge Grace. She was kicked off the island too. (I stole that, from a comedian. Now I feel bad).
POWER RANKINGS
Power rankings the first couple weeks are pretty predictable. If you win, you go towards the top. If you lose, you go towards the bottom. But you can see how your team ranks across teams from both leagues. Be patient with this, it will get more revealing in the coming weeks.
WAIVER WIRE
I did not think to explain this sooner, and I apologize if I’ve left new owners at a disadvantage. Tuesdays are arguably the most important day of your fantasy week. That is the day you submit waiver claims to pick up new players. For each player you pick up, you must drop a player. There are roster size limits strictly enforced by the software. Below is a hopefully brief description of how waivers work.
As games begin over the weekend, players are locked. They cannot be started or benched, but they also cannot be added to or dropped from a team’s roster. Players remain locked until the waiver wire runs the next week.
On Tuesday (after the Monday night game), owners can make claims for available players. When you go add a player, you must mark a player to be dropped. You can make as many waiver claims as you like.
Waiver run Tuesday night / Wednesday morning. Waivers are processed by team record and points scored, with the worst (err, least successful) teams going first. If your waiver claim is processed, the new player will be added and the dropped player will be removed from your team. If you waiver claim cannot be processed (the player is no longer available), you do NOT lose the player marked to be dropped.
The reason for waivers is to prevent a first come first serve rush on free agents each week. You have an entire day to pick the best players, and the play pick up distribution is fair across all teams.
If you need a player and miss the waiver process, you can still pick them up and add them immediately . Once a player clears waivers, he is available on a first come first server basis. If you have questions, please let me know.
HUMOR ME
Voting continues for the All 25 Year team. Your vote counts. All of them. No matter how many you cast. I’m exclusively using Dominion voting machines to ensure the most possible votes are counted, no matter how many are submitted or who they’re submitted for.
GAME OF THE WEEK
I’m headed to the Edison Works League for this week’s Game of the Week. Two new owners to GE fantasy football cross paths when Down the Drain travel to Shakedown. Down the Drain will have to decide between Justin Fields and Geno Smith at quarterback. No such decision to worry about for Shakedown. Shakedown will trot out Patrick Mahomes.
These two teams enter the game second and third in the Power Rankings. The teams are pretty evenly matched. Maybe a slight advantage to Down the Drain at running back and wide receiver, but nothing Mahomes can’t erase with one flick of the wrist.
