The Willow Run Flyers became the 11th different team to earn a Team of the Week award, beating Steel City FooBall in the Game of the Week 143-81. Brock Purdy had a fairly modest day by Player of the Week standards, but his 32 points not only led the Flyers but captured the award too. Saquan Barkley and Brandon Aiyuk added 26 and 21 respectively.
The best game of the week saw the Old England Patriots pull out a five point win over Prestige Worldwide. Patrick Mahomes scored 22 on Monday night to secure the victory for the Patriots. The Patriots are now tied with Steel City FooBall in the Halas division as we head into the home stretch.
Maybe the game with the biggest significance this week was Florida SeeBreeze’s 116-77 win over Rimskis Raiders. The win was critical to keep SeeBreezes playoff hopes alive, and the fact that it came over one of the teams they are trying to over takes is especially important. At 3-8, See Breeze is probably needing to win out to earn extended playing time.
The Digital Scammers have clinched the Paul Brown division title. The probably did this before their 97-69 win over division rival Cincinnati Eagles. The Scammers are now 9-2, the top record in the league. All three teams behind the Scammers in the Brown division are 4-7 and officially out of contention.
Grande Fantasmas have found their groove. This week it is a 122-67 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Justin Herbert led the way with 29, and the Giants defense added 23. 5-6 isn’t a secured playoff spot, but the potential is there and the chances are promising.
The Baloony Boiz may have had the upset of the weekend, beating the Gritz Blitz Falcons 111-98. Justin Fields had 23 for the Boiz and the Cowboys defense had 22. Seems I’ve mentioned the Cowboys defense several times this year.
BRILLIANT MANUFACTURING PLAYOFF PICTURE
The next three weeks are my favorite articles of they year to write. I love looking at the playoff picture. With two leagues, I wasn’t sure how I’d write this. I’ve decided to keep the playoff picture with each league’s recap. So the Edison Works folks can scroll down if you like.
IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY, the playoff seeds would be. As always, these are unofficial, but hopefully accurate.
1. DIGITAL SCAMMERS vs 8. PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE
4. OLD ENGLAND PATRIOTS vs. 5. WILLOW RUN FLYERS
2. GRITZ BLITZ FALCONS vs. 7. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
3. STEEL CITY FOOBALL vs. 6. GRANDE FANTASMAS
Prestige Worldwide would earn the eighth playoff spot by virtue of more points scored versus the Raiders, Eagles and Boiz.
TEAM BY TEAM Analysis for the BMFFL is below. The following projections are by record ONLY, and do not account for points tiebreakers.
1. SCAMMERS
Have clinched Brown division
Will clinch #1 overall seed with win and losses by FooBall, Patriots, Falcons, Flyers
2. FALCONS
Cannot clinch division this week
Will clinch playoff spot with win OR losses by three of the following, Raiders, Eagles, Boiz, Worldwide
3. FOOBALL
Cannot clinch division this week
Will clinch playoff spot with win OR losses by three of the following, Raiders, Eagles, Boiz, Worldwide
4. PATRIOTS
Cannot clinch division this week
Will clinch playoff spot with win OR losses by three of the following, Raiders, Eagles, Boiz, Worldwide
5. FLYERS
Cannot clinch division this week
Will clinch playoff spot with win OR losses by three of the following, Raiders, Eagles, Boiz, Worldwide
6. FANTASMAS
Cannot clinch playoff spot this week
7. BUCKEYES
Cannot clinch playoff spot this week
8. WORLDWIDE
Cannot clinch playoff spot this week
RAIDERS, EAGLES, BOIZ, SEEBREEZE
Cannot be eliminated this week
Very tight race from top to bottom. With three weeks to go, everyone in the BMFFL still has a shot at the championship. You may notice I disagree with ESPN regarding who has clinched. They may look at more detail than I do.
BANE BREAKSDOWN SHAKEDOWN
Bane is the EWFFL Team of the Week. But the real story here is what has happened to Breakdown. Sorry, Freudian! Shakedown. Losers of three in a row, the league bully got punched in the face and isn’t nearly as intimidating. Bane, on the other hand got 26 from Saquan Barkley and 20 more from Tyreek Hill. You know you are in a tough division when 6-5 at this point of the season only lands you in third.
Trevor Lawrence was the Player of the Week for the Beercats, who got a much deserved win over Joanne 116-70. Lawrence paced the Beercats with 36 while the Bills defense chased another 21 down. The Beercats are now 4-7 and hanging around the playoff cut line. But with their points scored, if they can just get into a tie, they will win most tie breakers.
There wasn’t a single game worthy of being called a good game. Noteworthy though is that Down the Drain has taken over first place in the Shula division by making somebody very unhappy. Drain beats Happy head to head 116-95. Bold statement dropping your boss out of first place. I kinda like it.
The Dak Knight has established themselves solidly as the second best team. They advance to 8-3 with a 110-79 beating of TacoCorp. The Dak Knight had the luxury of a pretty balanced attack where only Dak Prescott go to t20, but six players scored in double digits. As for TacoCorp, looks like the shell on their season is getting soggy on the bottom.
The last two games were more of the same old same old for the EWFFL bottom dwellars. The Rally Possums dropped MOMBALL 101-64, while the Secret Scammers beat Transformation Worldwide 94-71. Things are getting desperate for these two teams.
EDISON WORKS PLAYOFF PICTURE
As I did above, here is the playoff picture for the EWFFL…
IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY, the playoff seeds would be. As always, these are unofficial, but hopefully accurate.
1. RALLY POSSUMS vs 8. JOANNE
4. THE DAK KNIGHT RISES vs. 5. HAPPY
2. SHAKEDOWN vs. 7. SECRET SCAMMERS
3. DOWN THE DRAIN vs. 6. BANE
The playoff picture has a very clean dividing line in the EWFFL. 5-8 is in. 4-7 is out. Makes it really simple for me.
TEAM BY TEAM Analysis for the BMFFL is below. The following projections are by record ONLY, and do not account for points tiebreakers.
1. POSSUMS
Have clinched wildcard spot
Cannot clinch division this week
2. SHAKEDOWN
Have clinched wildcard spot
Will clinch division with win OR losses by Joanne and Scammers
3. DRAIN
Will clinch wildcard spot with win OR loss by Beercats
Will clinch division with win OR losses by Joanne and Scammers
4. DAK KNIGHT
Have clinched wildcard spot
Cannot be eliminated from division this week
5. HAPPY
Will clinch wildcard with win AND loss by Beercats
Cannot be eliminated from division this week
6. BANE
Will clinch wildcard with win AND loss by Beercats
Eliminated from division with loss OR Possums win
7. SCAMMERS
Cannot clinch playoff spot this week
Eliminated from division with loss OR Shakedown win
8. JOANNE
Cannot clinch playoff spot this week
Eliminated from division with loss OR Shakedown win
BEERCATS
Cannot be eliminated from playoffs this week
TACOCORP
Can be eliminated from playoffs with loss AND both of the following winning, Scammers, Joanne
MOMBALL
Can be eliminated from playoffs with loss AND both of the following winning, Scammers, Joanne
TRANSFORMATION
Can be eliminated from playoffs with loss OR both of the following winning, Scammers, Joanne
SUPER SURVIVOR
The final four in our survivor battle now trims to three. Down the Drain narrowly missed a Team of the Week in the EW League. So he’s probably safe. The Buckeyes got beat pretty hard. I don’t feel good for them. Steel City FooBall also took a close loss. And the Dak Knight won big. So after a first pass, I’m pretty sure the BMFFL is going to give up a team this week.
While 81 points isn’t a great week this late in survivor, you don’t have to be faster the bear, just faster than the slowest person in your group. And this week the bear is feasting on Buckeyes.
GAME OF THE WEEK
This time of year, Game of the Week takes on a new dimension. Not only do I look for the best teams playing, but also teams with their backs against the wall. And that is the direction I go this week. There isn’t a wall big enough for these backs. Literally both teams could be eliminated this week. Doesn’t get any more desperate than that.
TacoCorp hits the road to play Transformation Worldwide. Their combined win total of 5 would just barely squeak them into a playoff spot. Both won’t make the playoffs, that’s for sure. Probably neither. But if they want to stay alive, they must eliminate the other.
TacoCorp brings Josh Allen onto the battle field. Nothing wrong with that. While Allen has had a slightly down year, he’s still a top performing QB. Not sure what the issue is here.
Transformation Worldwide has Russell Wilson. This doesn’t leave me with nearly as many questions. Wilson hasn’t been the same player since moving to Denver. It is an extremely tough road to hoe for both team, but I have to give a slight advantage to the Tacos.
