Welcome to the 2023 GE Fantasy Football Leagues Awards Ceremony. Tonight, you’ll meet all the biggest stars of the just completed regular seasons. This will include celebrity owners from both the Brilliant Manufacturing Fantasy Football League and the Edison Works Fantasy Football League. And who know, maybe you’ll see your name on the list of dignitaries we honor tonight.
DIVISION WINNERS
Our first award goes out to the division winners. These teams and owners demonstrated the ability to dominate their division rivals, stomping them into submission with the greatest of ease. Their reward is $20 in prize money to be paid by your humble commissioner whenever he gets around to it.
The Dak Knight Rises, Champion of the Tom Landry Division in the EWFFL - The Dak Knight Rises may be the alpha male of all the division winners. That may not be very PC, considering there is a female in the group, but for cliché sake, I’m gonna go with it. The Dak Knight tie with one other team with the best regular season record at 10-4. And scored more points than that other team.
Digital Scammers, Champions of the Paul Brown Division in the BMFFL - That other team at 10-4 was the Digital Scammers. Considering this team was auto drafted to start the season, this was probably the single greatest coaching job during the season, in your humble commissioners honest opinion.
Shakedown, Champions of the Chuck Noll Division in the EWFFL - The Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde of the league, Shakedown virtually had their division clinched by mid-season. Then they took a little siesta for a month. Did some travelling, maybe went to Lynn, Newark… all the glamorous spots. And are now back to announce their presence with authority in the playoffs.
Gritz Blitz Falcons, Champions of the Vince Lombardi Division in the BMFFL - Spoiler Alert The Falcons were the only team to capture both a division crown and Team of the Year award. Don’t let that prevent you from finishing the article. There’s a lot more to read. But when you get to TOY, you’ll know part of the answer.
Down the Drain, Champions of the Don Shula Division in the EWFFL - Maybe the single bravest, boldest division champion of the lot. Down the Drain went head to head with his boss, winning the division in a tie breaker. May the pride you derive from this championship provide some solace as you work on the lousiest work assignments in the coming year.
Steel City FooBall, Champions of the George Halas - Last but most certainly not least, Steel City FooBall came out on top of a three way tie to win this division. That would make her the big cheese on top of the spaghetti and chili. For you non-Cincinnatians, that’s a Cincinnati chili reference. You can google it.
TEAMS OF THE YEAR
I always consider Team of the Year a major award. I think being the highest scoring team is an accomplishment. And it does not always coincide with record.
Beercats were the overall Team of the Year. Hailing from the EWFFL, the Beercats scored 1534 points in fourteen games. That is an impressive 109.6 points per game.
were the Team of the Year in the BMFFL. They scored 1475 points, or 105.4 points per game. The Falcons were actually third overall, so I’ll give a polite tip of the cap to
Shakedown who was in between.
ALL STARS
I can’t resist. I’m a glutton for punishment. I’m going to have an All Star game in week 17. It will pit the two leagues against one another for a true test of fantasy superiority. Here is how it will work.
The top players from each position are ranked. Obviously most are owned in both leagues (there was on kicker who was a free agent!). So the team with the most points scored during the season gets to put that player for their league. At least until the roster for that league at that position is full. Rosters will be 3 QBs, 4RBs, 5WRs, 2TEs, 2Ks and 1D. Starting lineups will be the same as the regular season, but the flex position will be a third WR.
OK, that ‘nuf splainen. Here are the teams.
