Because the BMFFL won the Team of the Year competition, I’ll cover them first in the playoff articles… assuming I remember that next week. BMFFL RESULTS Lets start with the big upset in round one. Rimskis Raiders eliminated the number one overall seed Digital Scammers 110-96. This avenges last years championship game defeat and ensures the Brilliant Manufacturing League will have a new winner this year. Jaylen Waddle was the leading scorer for the Raiders with 20. The Willow Run Flyers the closest game of the weekend, beating the Old England Patriots 86-82. Brock Purdy outdueled Patrick Mahomes to provide the margin of victory in this one. Purdy had 33 points for the Flyers. The Flyers now become the favorite out of the top half of the bracket. The two seed Gritz Blitz Falcons won the best game of the weekend with a surprising come from behind win on Monday Night. I had actually started to pencil in the article before going to be last night, and assumed Prestige Worldwide would advance. But Kenneth Walker scored 17 Monday, propelling the Falcons past Prestige Worldwide 119-115. Steel City FooBall marches on with a 109-46 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. CJ Stroud was a no show for the Buckeyes. With their season over, look for him to enter the transfer portal and land on a different fantasy team next season. For FooBall, Jaylen Hurts and Kyren Williams were the stars of the game with 25 and 23 respectively. EWFFL RESULTS Shakedown seems to have found their early season form. Or they discovered the one team they can reliably beat. For the second straight week, Shakedown beats the Secret Scammers, this time 102-98. It wasn’t easy for Shakedown this time as it took a big performance from Kenneth Walker to complete the comeback. Bad news for Shakedown is they have to play someone else next week… I refuse to play the Washington Generals to Harlem Globetrotters anymore. I told you to be fearful of this team. The Beercats left the Dak Knight Rises in need of a cold adult beverage to cry into, 131-77. Christian McCaffrey was the leading scorer for the Beercats with 36. Lamar Jackson added another 22. Bane flushed Down the Drain right out of the playoffs Monday Night. Each team had a player playing in this close matchup. Bane was able to hold on to the lead and advance to the semifinals. Down the Drain joins the Dak Knight as division winners who were eliminated in the first round. What makes this stink for Down the Drain is Bane got thirty freaking nine points from Baker Mayfield. Where’s that “gonna be sick” emoji when you need it. The Rally Possums found a Happy ending this weekend. Namely, the ended Happys season. In a QB battle that would football purist cringing, Joe Flacco and Derik Carr dueled to a respectable 26-26 draw. But the Possums got another 14 from the Browns defense and 13 from an unlikely source… Isiah Likely (Oh! If this kid becomes a star, you’re gonna hear that pun a lot in future seasons!). SEMIFINAL PREVIEWS You saw last week I had a “Scammer Predicts” line on each game preview. I have this real sophisticated formula for predicting the outcome of games. It works surprisingly well, and did not let me down this year. The Scammer went 6-2 in open round predictions. So heed these words with the honor and credibility they deserve. BMFFL PREVIEW In the first semifinal, Rimskis Raiders will try to advance to a second straight BMFFL Championship Game. Josh Allen has been the catalyst for the Raiders all season. The Flyers will counter with one of the seasons biggest surprises in Brock Purdy, who’s had multiple good games on the Flyers late season run. The Flyers won the only previous matchup of these teams back in week five. The Flyers hung 136 on the Raiders in that game. I doubt the Flyers get back to those lofty numbers, but I do see the them winning this game. Scammer predicts Flyers 102, Raiders 97. I had the Falcons down and out this past week. Won’t make that mistake again. The Falcons bring a powerful one two punch into this game, with Lamar Jackson at quarterback and Christian McCaffrey at running back. Steel City Fooball has had reliable performance from Jalen Hurts all season, and will surely play him. This matchup is a bit of a playoff rarity. Two division winners squaring off. These teams played right in the middle of the season at week eight. FooBall got the better of that matchup. But I see different results this time around. Scammer predicts Falcons 107, FooBall 100. EWFFL PREVIEW The number one overall seed Shakedown is the only remaining division champion. It is hard to tell if they are back to their early season form, but I suspect Bane will test them to find out. Bane can’t possibly expect another thirty point performance from Baker Mayfield. But Mayfield will most likely be under center for Bane. A far more reliable Patrick Mahomes will start for Shakedown. Bane caught Shakedown in the second half of the season, so they got the win. That was back in week 11. This is a tough game to call. I don’t trust Shakedown. And if you can’t tell, I don’t trust Baker Mayfield. But Bane has been able to mask any deficiencies with Mayfield at QB, and that is enough for me. Scammer predicts Bane 105, Shakedown 102.
