After posting yesterday's article and while looking for free agents, I made a discovery regarding the IR Roster spot I was not previously aware of. Purpose of this article is to share the information to all owners so that nobody gains and advantage, and we can all experiment with the new option for the remainder of the season.
PLAYERS WHO ARE OUT CAN BE ON IR
The discovery is that players who are listed as OUT for their upcoming game can be put on IR. I previuosly did not think this was possible.
How I discovered this will shed some light on why I am revisiting this. I was looking for free agents. I went to ADD PLAYERS, and noticed the option to filter by HEALTH. I noticed when doing so the option for IR is "IR-ELIGIBLE" (insert your best Scooby Doo "huh" sound here, and you'll know what I sounded like in that moment). Looking at the list, I saw both IR players and OUT players.
So I tested. I sacrificed my defense for this week to pick up a player who is OUT. All for you, my loyal fantasy subjects. Don't feel too bad for me, 'cause it worked. I did only do this with my Tailgaters league team. Sorry BM owners, you don't get to see what stiff I am testing with.
I was able to move my OUT player to IR, then pick up a better defense for this week. But I warn you, moving a player to IR is not as intuative as it looks like it should be.
HOW DO I PUT A PLAYER ON IR
If you are like me, you would expect to be able to hit the move button and place your IR or OUT player in that roster spot.
WRONG
Near the top of your MY TEAM page, to the right side, that is a button that says "Manage IR". Click that, and the whole world of IR roster management opens up for you. It is pretty intuative from there.
I am holding on to my OUT player to see what happens when he comes off OUT status. I want to see what it forces me to do.
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
The IR roster spot wasn't the bust I declared it to be after week one. It is directionally correct for what I wanted to accomplish, but isn't going to have the ultimate impact. Its kind of an opposite field single when I needed home run. But at least with the new information, we can test with it and see if there is potential.
