DIVISION WINNERS Three teams separated themselves from the field to win division crowns this season. In doing so, the earn $100 in prize money, which will be paid out by the commissioner when he gets around to it. SCAMMERS - The Scammers didn’t exactly cruise to the Paul Brown division title. But an eight game winning streak did put them out front and they were able to stay there in front of the pesky I Got Boom. The Scammers finished the season with the league’s best record at 10-4. MIILFORD MARAUDERS - The Milford Marauders have not won back to back George Halas division titles, following up last year’s campaign with an identical 9-5 season. It was good enough to win the Halas division by two games. It’s actually the third division title in the last four seasons for the Marauders. GREAT DISMAL SWAMP MONSTERS - More than ironic that it would be the Swamp Monsters who would rise up from the muck of a cluttered Vince Lombardi division. Three teams finished tied for first at 8-6. But it was the Swamp Monsters who scored the most points during the season to claim the tie breaker by about 28 points. Honorable mention (but no cash) for finishing in a tie goes out to the Warriors and Multiple Scoregasms. TEAM OF THE YEAR The most under appreciated award in the league (I personally think it deserves prize money) is Team of the Year. To score the most points in the league is an accomplishment in and of itself. This year that award goes to the OKY DUCKS who blew the race wide open late in the season. Through about week ten, Team of the Years was a tight battle among about eight teams. But the Ducks finished by scoring 131, 90, 143, 177, 94 in the last five week. That 177 total is the second highest game score in league history, and set the record for largest margin of victory at 114. In winning this award, the Ducks join the Renegades as the only teams in league history to earn three Team of the Year Awards. The Ducks previous TOYs were in 2004 and 2019. PLAYER OF THE YEAR Player of the Year is always a close battle. In case you do not remember, it is determined by the player who outscores the second best player at his position by the most points, meaning this player gave his owner the single greatest advantage over any other player in the league. We almost had history made this year, but not quite. And the record that was nearly set. We’ve never had a wide receiver win Player of the Year. Tyreek Hill missed it by eight points and only had a modest six points in week 14. TEAMs OF THE WEEK Very competitive early in the season, but flew south late in the year. Each TOW earns the owner $5. The highest scoring game of the season belonged to the Swamp Monsters in week five at 159 points. Eight different teams earned a Team of the Week Award. And among the four who didn’t was the team that had the best overall record. Hmm. Oky Ducks had the most with four and earned $20. Dans Destroyers had two, $10. I Got Boom also had two for $10. All of the following each had one. Scoregasms, Warriors, Marauders, Birds, Renegades. MILESTONES I did a lousy job keeping track of milestones. Such a lousy job that I think I want to make it a permanent part of the end of season awards rather than trying to track during the season. Two teams reached the 100 win milestone. The first, I sort of hate to mention under the circumstances. The Flippin Birds suffered one of those horrific seasons we all have at some point. The iron of it is, the one win they had go them to the 100 career wins total. That is quite the milestone and reflects the longevity of the team and the consistent success. Just a bummer it comes during a rough season. The Warriors reached the 100 win milestone as well. They did so with their week fourteen win over the Renegades. The Warriors joined the Hall of Fame over Thanksgiving, and are still alive for a third championship. Could end up being quite the season for the Warriors. I Got Boom reached the fifty win milestone this season. They did so in week seven with a 123-103 beating of Multiple Scoregasms. LEAGUE RECORDS These are getting harder and harder to set. With twenty five season under our belt, you have to do something truly unique to make any of the top ten list for league records. The OKY DUCKS 1544.9 points scored was enough to get them the seventh spot on the most points scored in a season. The overall record is still held by the 2002 Dans Destroyers, the only team to score 1600 points in a season. I don’t like mentioning these, but it is a record. The Flippin Birds 1-13 season tied the Pissed Platypussies for most losses in a season. The Scammers just barely got on the list for longest winning streak at eight. It is tied for eighth all time. The Flippin Birds hold the all time record, which may be one of those unbeatable records, with 15 in 2005. The Birds landed on the longest losing streak list at 8. It is the fourth longest losing streak in a season. The Ducks game in week thirteen produced two records. The second of which is a true league record and not just a top ten entry. The Ducks scored 177.6 points in week thirteen. That is the second highest total in a game ever. The record is held by the Scammers in 2014 when the Scammers scored 193.9. The second half of the Ducks week thirteen story is the demolished their hated Whitman Hart rival by 114.8 points. That is the single largest margin of defeat in league history. On the other end of the spectrum, I Got Boom got on the list for smallest margin of victory. They beat Lamar You Serious 86.4-86.1 for a point three margin of victory in week eight. It is tied for the sixth closest game that did not end in a tie. That’s it. End of the records. I’m sensing this article is getting a bit long. Probably longer any book some of you have ever read.
