Tailgater Bowl is all set with a couple of recent champions squaring off to see who will earn this year’s championship. Both games were a tale of two teams. One thriving while the other one was dying.
The Warriors broke a record set just a couple weeks ago with the largest margin of victory in league history. I don’t think there has ever been a case where one player would have beaten the other team. But Amari Cooper’s 40 points bested the Scammers total of 35. The Warriors won the game by a whopping 122 points, 157-35.
The Warriors had eight of their nine players in double digits. Only the kicker failed to score ten points. Cooper led everyone with 40. Tee Higgins and Jake Browning teamed up for 20 and 21 respectively, and from there the beat down was on.
On the Scammers side, it was the biggest disaster of a game I’ve ever seen from a fantasy team. One player was scratched before the start. Another went out when a concussion in the first quarter and the quarterback got benched after four interceptions.
What looked like a sure thing a few weeks ago turned to ashes on the Oky Ducks. And how Multiple Scoregasms keeps going on their improbably run is even harder to explain. But Scorgasms knocked off the Oky Ducks 109-75 in the other semi-final game to advance to their second consecutive league championship.
Dak Prescott still did his part for the Oky Ducks. He led all scorers with 24. But the next three best point totals were from Scoregasms. Baker Mayfield had 23, Derrick Henry and Jaymyr Gibbs both added 22 from the running back position. And better scores from most of the other position players was the difference. The Ducks did get 20 from Mike Evans, but the margin was too great by that point.
TAILGATER BOWL XXV
Tailgater Bowl XXV will see our two most recent champions going head to head. Multiple Scoregasms has the chance to become the first back to back champions since the Marauders won Tailgater Bowls XIII and XIV back in 2011 and 2012. Prior to that, we actually had three other back to back champions. But if Scoregasms do it, they will only be the fifth team to accomplish the feat.
The Warriors have had more than their share of success. They won Tailgater Bowl XXIII two seasons ago. Prior to that, they won Tailgater Bowl XIX at the end of the 2017 season. The Warriors were also inducted into the league Hall of Fame over thanksgiving. Tailgater Bowl XXV gives them the chance to join the other three owners who make up the three time champions club; Whitman, Price and Haddad. No, no, wait a minute, that’s Running Man. Conlin, Collins and King. That’s what I meant.
Mid season, things were bleak for Scoregasms. Kirk Cousins was knocked out for the season, leaving Scoregasms to scramble for quarterbacks the rest of the year. They dropped three in a row and four of five mid season, as it looked like things were falling apart. Three wins to close the regular season got them into the dance, and the two wins in the playoffs have them on a five game winning streak right now.
The Warriors seem to be the team getting hot at the right time. They lost three of four before winning in week fourteen. But have posted scores of 139 and 157 in the playoffs. The Warriors also won both meetings during the regular season. Kind of fitting that the two teams who did no win prize money despite finishing tied for first in their division will both win prize money in the playoffs.
Given they have no other quarterbacks on their roster, the Warriors will roll with Jake Browning. Despite a relatively poor performance last week in his NFL game, he still had twenty fantasy points. Christian McCaffrey is the stud on the Warriors, and the most reliable player. The reigning Player of the Year has scored double digit points in every single game this year.
As much as I’d like to crack Baker Mayfield jokes, He’s scored twenty plus in five of his last six games. That has been good enough to keep Scoregasms competitive and winning. And the backfield combination of Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs is capable of keeping pace with McCaffrey and company.
I think I’ve been betting against the Scoregasms for weeks now. Refusing to believe Baker Mayfields has the goods. I’m 3-3 on predictions and need this one to finish over .500. No chance I’m putting my fate in Baker’s hands this week. Scammer predicts Warriors 113, Scoregasms 96.
Good Luck to both of you.
